ASIAN PACIFIC CHAMPIONSHIP RESULTS
The IDSF Asian Pacific Championship Results are now available!
All 4 Chinese Taipei Couples managed to secure a placing in the
finals (Peter Chen & Tiffany Lee, Su Chin-Yang & Wang
Chen-Ni, Kevin Lin & Batty Liao, Michael Wang & Lily Chao)
and Hong Kong's Mok Chi Keung & Law Kam Yau came
6th in the Standard final.
WILLIAM
TURN PRO
William Pino and Alessandra Bucciarelli having
won the World Amateur Standard Championship by taking the
1st place in all 5 dances at the Royal Albert Hall in London,
England, announced that they are turning professional. Results
of the Championship is now available.

RESCHEDULE
OF TAIWAN CHAMPIONSHIP
The 1st Asian Ten Dance Championships
and 6th Asian Pacific Championships that was canceled due
to the earthquakes in Taiwan have been rescheduled to 18-19 December
1999. For more information please contact your local IDSF
member association.
NEW WORLD
PROFESSIONAL LATIN CHAMPION
One of the major achievements in a professional Latin dancer's
career is perhaps to win the title of the World Professional
Latin Champion. On 31st October, Bryan Watson and Carmen
reached the most signficant milestone of their new partnership
by winning the 1999 World Professional Latin Championship.

COMPETITIONS
CANCELLED DUE TO EARTHQUAKE
Owing to the occurrence of the massive earthquake in Taiwan last
week, the 1st Asian Ten Dance Championships and 6th Asian Pacific
Championships which
is due to be held on 9-10 October in Taipei has been cancelled.

HOLGER
RETIRES
At the 13th German Open Championship, Holger Nitsche
and Charlotte Egstrand announced their retirement from
competitions due to Holger's constant problems with his
back. Holger will put all his effort into the teaching
side while Charlotte is looking for a new partner and hopes
to be back on the floor as soon as possible.
PAUL AND
KARYNA SPLITS
After one year of successful partnership between Paul Killick
and Karyna Kylkova and gaining second place in the British
Open Professional Latin Championship, Paul and Karyna
are on the move again! Paul will be dancing with Hanna
Kartunnen.
NEWLY
WEDS
Congratulations to Jukka Haapalainen and Sirpa Suutari,
the current reigning British Open Professional Latin Champions,
who have recently tied their knots in Finland.
DANCESPORT COACH'S CONGRESS SUCCESS
The 1st
ADSF DanceSport Coach's Congress was successfully completed
in Singapore on 2 August 1999. There were more than 70
people from all around Asia attending the event. The Congress
was divided into two major sections. The first section consisted
of two lectures given by Paul and Dorna Richardson and
Alan Shingler respectively which can only be attended by
the members of ADSF, was more serious and focused on giving training
pointers to the "to-be¨ coaches. The second section which
concentrated on the latest trends in Ballroom and Latin-American
dancing and given by William Pino and Michael Wentink
assisted by Beata respectively was more carefree. It was
however much enjoyed by the audience and each received a standing
ovation at the conclusion of their topic! The Congress was sure
a complete success!
LION
CITY RESULTS
One of the major dance events held in Asia this year, the 12th
Lion City International DanceSport Championships, was concluded
in Singapore on 1 August 1999. It was truly an international event
with entries from all around the world, including Australia, New
Zealand, Italy, England, Russia, Japan, Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia,
Thailand and Hong Kong. Want to know how did your favorite couple

COACH'S
CONGRESS DETAILS
The 1st ADSF DanceSport Coach's Congress will be held in
Singapore on Monday, 2 August 1999. After attending the four lectures
presented by South Africa's Michael Wentink assisted by
Beata, England's Alan Shingler assisted by Donna
Shingler and Paul Richardson assisted by Lorna Dawson,
the participants can ask their respective associations to apply
for a DanceSport Coach Category C (National License).
GRAND
PRIX RESULTS
The '99 DanceSport Grand Prix in Shizuoka
held in Japan has been successfully completed. Results
are now available on our site.
GRANDPRIX
ATTENDANCE
This coming weekend is an eventful one for many in Greater China.
A number of athletes and adjudicators from Hong Kong and Taiwan
will be traveling to Shizuoka, Japan to participate in the '99
DanceSport Grand Prix in Shizuoka on
18th July. This event is organised by the Japan
DanceSport Federation and is open to all Asian competitors.

At the team match of the Blackpool competitions on 30
May 1999, Bill Irvine announced the retirement
of renowned professional couple, Marcus and Karen Hilton
(M.B.E.)) from the competition floor and they will not be competing
in the British professional modern championships to be
held on Friday, 4 June 1999.

12th Lion City International DanceSport Championship,
is coming on 1 August 1999. This grand competition is held in
Singapore annually and attracts dancers from all over the world.

FIRST
MIX AMATEUR AND PROFESSIONAL COMPETITION
The first mixed event for Amateurs and Professionals is scheduled
to be held on 8th June 1999 in Las Vegas. This invitational competition
will be participated by both amateur and professional couples.
This is the first ever event in which competitors from both the
IDSF
and the WD&DSC
will be competing on the same dance floor.
SANDRO
AND HANNA SPLIT
Another Split in the top professional Latin ranks. Sandro Cavallini
& Hanna Kartunnen will be going their separate ways. Sandro
announced during their show in Hong Kong on 1st May that it was
their last show together. Both of them will continue to be dancing
and are looking for partners.

ON TV
It's time to stay glued to the television, after the French
Open Grandprix shown on the Sports channel of cable TV on
30th March, a program called "Strictly
DanceSport" will be shown on Star Sports Channel on the
7th April 1999 from 7:00p.m. to 7:30pm. (Hong Kong time).
ANOTHER PARTNERSHIP SPLITS
It is always sad to witness the split up of a successful partnership.
After the splitting of Donnie & Gaynor and Alan
& Carmen, another well know couple, Bryan Watson &
Karen Hardy, have also decided to split up and pursue their
own interest. Reliable sources reveal that Bryan has now paired
up with Carmen.
PARTNERSHIPS
SPLIT
Donnie Burns and Gaynor Fairweather, the 14 times Undefeated
World Professional Latin American Champions just ended their long
term partnership. Donnie intends to dance with his girlfriend
Nicole Hansen from Switzerland for shows only, Gaynor
will be looking for another partner to compete again.
Allan
Tornsberg and Carmen have also decided to split. They try
to form two new partnerships and start to compete as soon as possible.
Allan Tornsberg will be dancing with Serena Danza.

Asian DanceSport Federation (ADSF) got full recognition from
and became a new member of GAASF (General Association of Asian
Sports Federations) on 16 December 1998.
